Best Shopify Review Apps

Choose a Shopify review app by job: photo reviews, import, request method, and widget weight. Native reviews are limited; do not buy fake reviews.

Shoppers use reviews as a trust check: did someone like you receive the product, and does the photo match the listing. That is why review apps show up in every “must install” list. It is also why those lists are a poor buying method. There is no honest #1 review app. Shopify’s own storefront review tools are limited, so third-party apps are common. This page is a job shortlist: what you need the app to collect, display, and import—then how to judge an App Store listing. It does not rank vendors, quote install counts, or invent a conversion lift from a widget.

Shopify retired its free Product Reviews app in 2024. The Shop channel can collect product reviews and, with supported partner apps, sync some of them. Shopify documents partner sync in syncing Shop product reviews. Your Online Store still usually needs a partner app (or theme work) to show a full widget. App install and uninstall: Apps.

Quick answer

Pick the job: text + stars, photo/video, import from another platform, email request vs on-site ask, Shop / Google surfaces, then theme speed. Native Shopify does not replace a full review stack for most storefronts. In the App Store, compare one listing at a time against that job. Names such as Judge.me, Loox, Yotpo, Stamped, Okendo, and Reviews.io appeared in the product-reviews category when checked on 29 August 2026; they are illustrations, not a ranking—verify the live listing. Do not buy or commission fake reviews. Do not install two review apps on one theme.

Why reviews, and what native cannot do

Reviews reduce uncertainty when photos, size, or quality are hard to judge from the listing alone. They are not a substitute for accurate titles, shipping, and refund pages. A carousel of five-star quotes on a store that ships late still produces refunds.

What you typically cannot do well without a third-party app: automated post-purchase requests with your branding, photo/video collection, bulk import when you leave another app, Q&A, and rich widgets on product and home templates. Shop-collected reviews help the Shop surface; they are not automatically a designed PDP module. If you already have CSV reviews from a previous app or marketplace, import is a first-class requirement—test a sample file before you pay a yearly plan.

Evaluation criteria (not a score)

CriterionWhat to check
Request methodEmail after fulfillment vs on-site prompt. Email needs consent and a sender you control. On-site asks compete with add to cart—especially on mobile.
Photo / videoApparel, beauty, and home often want UGC. Text-only may be enough for simple SKUs.
Import / exportCan you leave with a CSV. Imported reviews may not qualify for Shop display—read Shopify’s eligibility notes.
WidgetsApp block vs embed. Carousels and autoplay video are a Core Web Vitals tax. See too many Shopify apps.
ModerationHide abuse without hiding honest 3-star notes.
SyndicationShop, Google Shopping, other channels—only if you will use them.
OverlapReviews plus “social proof” plus popup is three scripts.

Preview the widget in a duplicate theme with your product photos. Demo stores are staged. Customize the theme so the block sits below facts that sell (price, variants, shipping), not on top of them.

Category examples (dated 29 August 2026)

These names showed up as product-review listings on that date. They are examples of the category, not a recommended order:

  • Judge.me — often evaluated for import and a usable free tier. Confirm current plans in the App Store.
  • Loox — often evaluated when photo/video display is the job.
  • Yotpo, Stamped, Okendo, Reviews.io — often evaluated when reviews sit next to loyalty, UGC suites, or larger catalogs.

Read each listing’s permissions, theme embed, and export path. Pricing and feature gates change. Do not copy a competitor’s star widget and call it research.

Do not buy fake reviews

Purchased, incentivized-without-disclosure, or invented reviews are a trust and legal problem. They also get your widgets and ad accounts into trouble. Ask for reviews from people who bought. Disclose incentives if you offer a discount for a photo. Moderate spam; do not delete every critical review. This is not legal advice; consumer-protection rules in your market still apply.

This article will not claim that adding a review slider raises conversion by a percentage. Measure add-to-cart on your product pages before and after a single widget change. Operator testing: Shopify CRO growth framework.

Common mistakes

  • Installing a review app before the product page is readable.
  • Two review apps “to compare” left on in production.
  • Importing marketplace reviews that do not match the SKU you sell.
  • Autoplay review video in the first screen on a phone.
  • Treating Shop ratings as the same as your Online Store widget.

What to do next

Write the job in one sentence. Check native Shop settings if you use that channel. Then one App Store candidate, duplicate theme, one widget. A review widget is a content and performance decision. If you need the block built into a custom product template instead of another embed, AalphaLeo Digital Solutions can look at theme vs app. Phone / WhatsApp: +91 9288621081. That is optional.

Frequently asked questions

Does Shopify have a built-in review app?

Not a full storefront replacement for most merchants. The old Product Reviews app is gone. Shop can collect reviews; partner apps display and request on the Online Store. Confirm what you see in admin and Shop settings.

Should I import Amazon or AliExpress reviews?

Only if they describe the product you fulfill and you are allowed to use them. Misleading reviews are worse than an empty widget. Test import, then moderate.

Photo reviews or text?

Photo when the shopper cannot judge texture or fit from your images. Text is enough when the product is simple. Either way, the widget must not bury add to cart.

Will reviews increase my conversion rate?

They can reduce doubt when they are real. No honest article can quote a lift that applies to your catalog. Test one change; do not stack apps to chase a blog percentage.
