Facebook and Instagram ads for Shopify are a public store, creative that matches stock and shipping, and tracking Shopify and Meta actually support this month—not a screenshot of ROAS from a course. Meta’s pixel and Conversions API (CAPI) are configured through Shopify’s Facebook & Instagram sales channel, customer events / pixels, or related Google & YouTube overlap only if you also run Google tags. Paths move. Follow your Shopify admin plus Shopify Help and Meta Business Help for Shopify—not this page as a frozen click-path.

Prerequisite: checkout works, then launch (password off). Do not scale ads into a password store. Channel map: Shopify marketing complete guide. Google is a separate account to staff: Google Ads for Shopify.

Quick answer

Install or open Facebook & Instagram by Meta as Shopify documents (sales channel Help). Connect the Business / ad account you control. Enable data sharing and attach a Meta pixel in Share data settings. Enhanced/Maximum levels are where Shopify documents CAPI sending purchase server-side alongside the pixel—confirm the live labels in Meta pixel Help and Facebook data sharing. Place a test purchase. In Events Manager, you want one Purchase per order (browser and server deduplicated, not doubled). Creative: the SKU in the ad is in stock, the landing price matches, shipping promise matches checkout. iOS and modeled conversions mean Ads Manager will not equal Shopify. Do not invent ROAS to close that gap. Hub: Shopify 101 category.

Tracking: channel, pixels, do not dual-fire

Shopify currently supports Meta through:

  • The Facebook & Instagram channel (pixel + data-sharing / CAPI as Help describes).
  • Settings → Customer events for app pixels or custom pixels (pixels overview).
  • Google & YouTube for Google tags—not a second Meta pixel. GA4 setup: Google Analytics 4 for Shopify.

Pick one implementation for the same Pixel ID. Channel + theme fbq( + a “CAPI app” + a custom pixel to the same pixel is how Purchase doubles and bidding learns noise. If you migrate old theme code, Shopify’s pixel migration says to move Meta to the Facebook & Instagram channel.

Test: one paid order in Shopify, one Purchase in Events Manager after dedup. Value and currency plausible. Consent in your market may hold the pixel until the shopper allows it—Help covers that; do not “fix” a consent gap by firing Purchase twice.

Creative must match stock and shipping

Meta will not save a lie.

  • The product in the video or carousel is available at the URL you use.
  • Price and compare-at on the ad match the product page (discounts: discount strategies).
  • Shipping timeline and returns on the landing page match shipping and policy pages.
  • UGC that shows a color you do not sell gets returns and angry comments you will staff.

Catalog ads need a catalog that syncs. If the channel’s catalog is stale, fix sync before you scale Advantage+ shopping-type campaigns. This is not a creative-formula article; it is a truth-in-advertising constraint.

Campaigns: one account you can staff

Use one Meta ad account. Start with a campaign type Meta currently documents for your catalog (traffic vs sales—names change). Send people to the product or collection they saw, not a homepage slideshow. Retargeting needs enough pixel events to matter; a new store with 40 sessions is not a retargeting machine.

Staff comments and Inbox (or Shopify Inbox) if you run social ads. Unanswered “is this in stock?” under an ad is part of the funnel.

Do not launch Meta and Google the same week unless two people own the two platforms. Email you can run without a media budget: email marketing. Recover checkout on people who already started paying: abandoned carts.

iOS and attribution: no fake ROAS

Apple’s tracking limits, consent, and Meta’s modeled conversions mean Ads Manager purchase counts will not match Shopify 1:1. That is expected. Optimize to a Purchase event that is true, then reconcile with Shopify orders and contribution after product cost and ad spend—not a dashboard ROAS copied into a pitch deck.

This article will not quote a “good” MER, CPA, or ROAS. Checkout still has to work under load: checkout conversion, CRO framework. Launch hygiene: launch checklist.

Common mistakes

  • Pixel in the theme and the Meta channel.
  • Ads for out-of-stock or 14-day shipping shown as “ships tomorrow.”
  • Scaling on a password URL or a draft theme preview.
  • Treating Meta-attributed revenue as cash in the bank.
  • Buying a third-party “ROAS booster” app instead of fixing events.

What to do next

Public store. One Pixel ID. Test Purchase once. Creative that matches inventory. One campaign you will check. Pillar: Shopify 101 complete guide. Native Marketing vs apps: best Shopify marketing apps, email apps shortlist.

You can connect the channel from Shopify and Meta Help. If you want a partner to run Google Ads, Meta ads, social, or lead generation against a store that already checks out, AalphaLeo Digital Solutions does that work. Phone / WhatsApp: +91 9288621081. Optional. One test order matching one Purchase is not.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the Facebook Shop to run ads?

No. Ads need an ad account, a pixel (and CAPI as you configure data sharing), and a landing URL that works. Shop and Instagram Shopping are extra catalog surfaces with their own eligibility. See Shopify’s Facebook & Instagram channel Help.

Pixel or Conversions API?

Shopify documents both via data-sharing levels on the Meta channel: pixel always (when sharing is on); CAPI for purchase at Enhanced/Maximum as Help currently states. Confirm in admin. Do not add a second CAPI app on the same pixel without a reason.

Why doesn’t Meta ROAS match Shopify?

iOS, consent, modeling, refunds, view-through windows. Fix double-counting first. Then accept a gap. Do not “correct” it with a second Purchase event.

Can I run ads before the store is public?

You can build the ad account. Sending paid traffic to a password page tests nothing useful. Finish launch first.
